Le Jardin des Plantes Allées Consul Dupuy,
This arboretum covers an area of 3 hectares on both sides of the Tescou. It presents some remarkable specimens of plants most planted during the creation of the garden and sculptures ...
Protestant stronghold, Montauban was surrounded by ramparts.
The fortifications were destroyed in the eighteenth century, and for a long time the high bank of the Tescou, which stretched from the Porte des Carmes to the Moustier, remained an abrupt and bushy slope.
The development of the ravine began around 1835, but it was not until 1849 that a solid retaining wall allowed the creation of a vast promenade: the Plateau.
At the same time, the Society of horticulture and acclimatization of Tarn-et-Garonne organized a first botanical exhibition on this walk.
In 1857, with the help of the municipality, 2 hectares of land were bought and one of the best landscape architects in Paris, Mr. Le Breton, came to draw the plan of the Jardin des Plantes.
On June 16, 1861, Marshal Niel, commander of the 6th Army Corps, and M. Prax Paris, Mayor of Montauban, inaugurated this garden in which the Montalbanese still stroll.
For the little story : when Montauban is land of the Indians ...
In 1827, American Indians from the Osage tribe came to France to plead the cause of their people. Delivered to themselves and after months of wandering, three of them reached Montauban, where Bishop Dubourg welcomed them. They will return to their country thanks to the generosity of the Montalbanese.
In September 1989, the association Oklaoma-Occitania resumed contact with the tribe which accepted the project of cultural exchanges. Thus the town of Montauban gives the tribes osage and cherokee a plot of land of the Jardin des Plantes. A giant sequoia is planted there symbolizing America.
The Plant Garden in augmented reality:
It became the world's first public themed park using augmented reality technology. Thanks to the application "Magic Xperience" (previously downloaded free of charge) animals and characters will be animated by aiming at the panels installed in the Jardin des Plantes.
