Maxim Leo, a Berlin journalist, was twenty years old at the time of the fall of the Wall. With an alert and captivating pen, he now tells the story of an unusual family: his own. After fighting in the French Resistance, his grandfather helped found the GDR. His mother believed in the future of the young communist state, while his father was already dreaming of seeing it disappear.
The strength of this exceptional document lies in the intelligence with which Maxim Leo organizes this story that spans some sixty years. His talent as a narrator makes this testimony and its protagonists unforgettable.
"The Story of an East German" not only provides a real understanding of what the GDR was like, but also sheds light on the contradictions of today's Germany.
Open not only to Confluences members but to all those who wish to do so, the Confluences Reading Circle meets every 4 to 6 weeks to debate around a book chosen by the participants.
