A Cuban kid who loves football and hip-hop becomes an international ballet star... Dancer Carlos Acosta plays his own story in this sensitive biopic.
In Cuba in the early 1980s, Carlos, nicknamed "Yuli" by his father Pedro after an African god of war, is an impetuous and rebellious child. In the streets of Havana, he triumphs in spontaneous breakdance battles. Pedro, who takes a dim view of these sidewalk competitions, nevertheless detects his son's talent for dancing through them. Against the kid's wishes, he sends him to the most prestigious ballet school in the country, then to boarding school, far from his family. At first synonymous with constraint, this art soon becomes a refuge then, little by little, the promise of an exceptional career that Yuli does not stop questioning.
A session offered as part of the Mars en danse Festival in partnership with the Dance Conservatory.
Presentation by Gwenaëlle Martinez, dance teacher at the Montauban Conservatory. As a preamble, performance by students focused on classical dance.
