In the year 1327, in a Benedictine abbey in northern Italy, monks disappeared. A Franciscan, William of Baskerville, assisted by the young novice Adso von Melk, leads the investigation. This is the time when the Church, in the midst of a crisis, finds itself in dispute over its spiritual and temporal power. It is also the peak of the inquisition. A highly anticipated medieval thriller carefully prepared over three years, respecting the era as best as possible and which cost a whopping nineteen million dollars. It is also a film by Jean-Jacques Annaud who is always passionately drawn by his subjects.
