TAMBORA with Hélène Laurain.

Hélène Laurain is a translator and leads workshops on contemporary writing. After Partout le feu (Verdier, 2022), she continues her work attentive to the living, to feminism, and to the forms that express the contemporary. In her new book, Tambora (Verdier, 2025), a mother tells us about her two daughters, whom she sees as vast as expanding cities. The first is already here when the story begins; the second will soon be born, after the loss of another child in a miscarriage. Here, the temporality of motherhood dominates, but other realities creep in and attempt to take their place: a manuscript, a lockdown, the unfolding environmental catastrophe... Her book combines narrative, reflections, and poetry, and takes us on a journey through an uncertain world.
