In the heart of the 1930s, Robert Johnson scoured underground cabarets to sing the blues and entertain the black community. In an America plagued by racial segregation, he manages to record 30 songs which, almost a century later, continue to dazzle with the invention of his playing, the poetry of his lyrics and the brilliance of his interpretation.

The short life of Robert Johnson inspired Nonoko to create a series of etchings (in savings size), which illustrate his creative genius and his hectic and dramatic existence.
Nonoko is close to ukiyo-e by the way it uses simple, light, popular, unpretentious images, and by the method of reproduction (linography or serigraphy) which makes it possible to obtain prints. Ukiyo-e means pictures of the floating world. They represent daily life, the atmosphere of the city, childhood, evoke nature, with the concern of showing the present.
"To live only in the present moment, to give oneself up entirely to the contemplation of the moon, the snow, the cherry blossom and the maple leaf ... not to be overcome by poverty and not to let it showing on his face, but drifting like a calabash on the river, that is called u kiyo”. Asai Ryoi, Ukiyo Monogatari, 1665.
Presentation of the artist: Nonoko
Self-taught, Nonoko has been drawing, painting and illustrating since childhood. Long before the rise of computers, he made models of posters and flyers on a light tablet before investing in drawing and DTP software in the early 90s. These practices have never left him. and after a career in the world of books and bookstores, he returned to his graphic passions by becoming a graphic designer illustrator. He deliberately chooses
to develop a personal work that takes precedence over commercial computer graphics.
