During wars, information is a strategic asset. While in 1870, French newspapers transmitted important information to the enemy, this was not the case during the two World Wars. The press was controlled with an iron fist.
Between censorship and propaganda, the State and the Army attempted to influence public opinion. The press, photographs, and ephemera provide insight into the information circulating during these periods, both officially and privately.
