Benjamin Tholozan grew up in a village in the south of France, the birthplace of Alphonse Daudet. A Provençal, Latin, and earthy land. His entire family still lives there; they all speak with a southern accent. All except him. It's impossible to detect in his phrasing the slightest southern intonation, the slightest word inherited from his ancestors' dialect. To become an actor, he erased his accent. He speaks pointedly.
"Parler pointu" is an expression that southerners use to refer to the Parisian accent, in reality that of standard French, spoken in the media and on stage. Accompanied by the music of Brice Ormain, whose strains willingly transport us to the shores of the Mediterranean, the actor propels us into the past, to the origins of French, to the heart of a historical and familial epic. He tells us about the gradual abandonment of regional dialects and accents, and the personal and political implications of this loss.
